Fiber Active®

High-Performance Everyday "Super Fibre" for Racehorses and Active Sport Horses

Fiber Active® is a moist, high energy, digestible fibre comprising of lucerne and whole oat crop freshly harvested at the dough stage. Fiber Active® has been specifically designed for racehorses and high-level sport horses in vigorous exercise programmes.

With its blend of lucerne and oat grain, Fiber Active® is highly palatable, and conveniently brings together the oat and lucerne combination that has been historically used by racing stables in New Zealand over many decades.

Fiber Active® aids in the management of metabolic and digestive health in horses. Due to the moistness of Fiber Active®, it will assist in preventing dehydration whilst still supplying a good level of lysine and other amino acids for muscle repair and immune function.

Fiber Active® is completely safe, consistent and ideal as the primary fibre for horses with high energy requirements.

A traditional blend of forage fibres for horses with higher energy requirements:
  • Fresh cut lucerne and traditional whole oat plant
  • Delicious blend of legume and cereal forage fibres seasoned with oat grain
  • Sustained energy balanced with low protein
  • Strength and hydration for performance

  • Fiber Active® Feeding Recommendations
Fiber Active® can be fed on its own in the feed bowl or mixed with supplements. When introduced to the diet, increase daily amounts by 0.5kg increments until the desired quantity is reached.

We recommend for those who feed twice a day, to feed 0.5kg of Fiber Fresh per 100kg of horse. We recommend feeding a minimum of 2kg per day, but there is no limit on how much Fiber Active® can be fed.

When extra energy is required increase the amount of Fiber Active® first before adding any concentrates or hard feed.

Feeding Fiber Active® at the correct amounts and maintaining a 2:1 fibre: grain ratio increases the digestibility of concentrates by 20-30%, therefore the daily amount of concentrates may need to be reduced. How much to reduce this by will depend on the individual horse and can be reviewed by regular condition scoring.

Most sport/race horses do best on 4-6kg of Fiber Active® per day in addition to added energy such as grains/concentrate feeds and fat/oil.

  • Fiber Active® Feeding Notes
When planning a diet, the most important consideration is that a horse must receive an absolute minimum of 1.5% of its bodyweight in forage fibre – e.g. hay, pasture, and/or Fiber Fresh per day. The remaining diet must then be balanced according to the quality and composition of that forage fibre and the physiological demands of the horse e.g. growth, lactation, exercise for extra energy, protein etc.
